AFTER shopping and indulging themselves for Fathers Day, families became impromptu ‘models’ as they posed for portraits in the Daddy Cool photo contest held at the Queensbay Mall in Penang.
Daughters and sons struck loving poses with their dads as a photographer snapped away, producing images to be cherished for a lifetime.
With some 80 families participating, the improvised studio at the mall’s North Zone proved a hive of activity.
One lucky dad will also receive a belated Fathers Day present, as the contest winner, to be selected by sponsors later, stands to walk away with a brand new Rado watch worth RM6,500.
Three generations: (right to left) Ooi Teik Lee posing with father Ooi Yeow Chong and son Ooi Jia Yik for the Daddy Cool contest Design engineer Ng Jieu Hau, 37, and IT operations manager wife Cheong Pooi San, 33, along with children Yun Xin, five, and Shu Heng, one, are regular visitors to the mall, and didn’t hesitate to sign up when they found out about the contest.
“We’re here almost every weekend, and came today to celebrate Fathers Day. We saw the banner, and fancied our chances.
“We happened to visit the Rado shop the other day, and liked their watches. It would be great if we could win one!” Ng said.
Three generations were represented as safety officer Ooi Teik Lee, 42, posed with his retired father Yeow Chong, 77 and son Jia Yik, 13. They decided to celebrate here as it would allow them to take part in the contest.
“If we do win it, I will definitely give the watch to my dad,” Teik Lee said.
Bank officers Abdul Munir Yusop and Azliza Mohd Yusoff, both aged 33, enjoyed a fun day out with their children Aflah Aqilah, six, and Nuha Afnan, three.
Happy family: Ng Jieu Hau posing with wife Cheong Pooi San, daughter Yun Xin and son Shu Heng. “As we like taking family photos, this represented a good opportunity. Despite the commitments and responsibility that comes with fatherhood, it is definitely the best thing that has happened to me,” Munir pointed out.
Security manager Veera Manickam, 35, said he makes it a point to spend the weekends together with his wife, HR analyst Dharshini Looi, 31, and son Kryshern Aditya, one. They like catching up with the events in malls, and enjoy moments of bonding.
“Kryshern wants to give his dad a watch. He is still too young to afford it, so maybe he can win it for him,” Looi said, pointing out that she had presented a gift to her own father earlier in the day.
The weekend also saw the mall commence its Glorious Italy! Shop and Fly Contest in conjunction with the 1Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival. To participate, one needs to produce a voucher of RM100 and above in a single receipt.
The grand prize winner stands to win a 10-day trip to Italy for two worth RM20,000, with destinations including Rome, Florence, Venice and the Leaning Tower of Pisa, inclusive of return flights and accommodation.
A Samsonite luggage set worth RM3,800, and a Bonia tote bag worth RM2,000 are the second and third prizes respectively. There are also 20 consolation prizes of Dome meal vouchers worth RM100 each.
