Building a caring society

AFTER a successful 12-day campaign to raise money for charity, a group of 10 Chinese organisations managed to raise a total of RM319,587.20.
The organisers were the Federation of Hokkien Associations Malaysia, Federation of Teochew Associations of Malaysia, Federation of Malaysian Lim Associations, Federation of Malaysian Chinese Surname Associations, Federation of Hainan Associations Malaysia, Federation of Tong Ann, Kinmen and Xiamen Associations of Malaysia, Federation od Kwang Tung Associations Malaysia, Federation of Hakka Associations of Malaysia, San Jiang Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Association, and Federation of Kwang Si Association.
The money was raised through a Chinese classical ochestra performance.
Lim: Give tax exemption to donors who d onate to government-recognised charity organisations. A total of 12 charity organisations will benefit from the donation, including the Selangor Society for Persons with Learning Difficulties Dayspring, Malaysia Metabolic Society, Shuang Fu Christian Association, BP Rotary Charity Foundation, Rita Charity House, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Caring Charity Organisation for Orphans, Independent Living and Training Centre, Society of Families of Persons with Learning Disabilities, Federal Territory, Kajang Special Children Association, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Mobility Association, and the Malaysia Sikh Foundation.
The 12 organisations will receive the funds once they submit their Registration of Supplier (ROS) certificate.
Federation of Malaysian Lim Associations president Robert Lim urged the government and Finance Ministry to consider giving tax exemption to donors who donate to government-recognised charity organisations.
“This will encourage people to donate more, as well as help build a more caring society,” explained Lim.
The charity organisations receiving the donations were very grateful for it.
