New service system launched

PORT Klang Authority (PKA) recently launched the Port Ancillary Services System (ePass), which is in line with the Government’s effort to increase the public sector’s service delivery system through the modernisation of the business licence.

PKA’s Property Department and Information Technology Department worked together to build this system and, after four successful trial runs, launched ePass for the convenience of its contractors.

The PKA, an agency under the Transport Ministry, had taken the initiative to develop ePass to facilitate and speed up the process of acquiring licence approval for providing ancillary services in Port Klang.

With the use of this system, contractors will no longer be burdened by heavy documentation and long hours awaiting approval.

PKA licenses 22 types of services that are not provided by the terminal operators.

These services are outsourced to external contractors who provide the services inside the port terminals, such as Westports and Northport.

As part of PKA’s safety and security measures, these licences are granted to contractors before they enter into the port areas.

To date, 232 service licences have been issued to 145 contractors to carry out their activities in Westports and Northport.

PKA believes that the service will enhance its image as one of the preferred destinations for shipping lines and maintain its status as the logistics hub of the nation.
