Right at your doorstep
THE Sultanah Bahiyah Foundation (YSB) will embark on yet another community project aimed at health care for needy Kedahans.
The project, Mobile Health Screening programme, jointly undertaken by YSB, the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) and Sunway Group is expected to be launched by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah on July 7.
The launch will be at Stadium Darulaman, Alor Setar, during the three-day ‘Karnival Amal Hari Penyayang 2012’ from July 6 to July 8.
YSB Board of Trustees member Datuk Paduka Syed Unan Mashri Syed Abdullah revealed that a 40-seater bus would be converted into a seven-booth mobile vehicle to facilitate the LifeCheck programme to be carried out.
“The mobile health screening programme will be for the benefit of rural folk,” he said at the YSB premises in Shahab Perdana, Alor Setar, on Wednesday.
“The free services will include urine test, high blood pressure, sugar in the blood, cholesterol, obesity test and counselling.”

Syed Unan Mashri said the programme was expected to get off the ground sometime in October.
“The converted bus is ready in Kuala Lumpur, and we are in the process of recruiting staff to be trained to man the mobile health clinic.
“At least RM250,000 a year is needed to successfully implement this programme. As such, YSB is appealing to the public to contribute generously towards the project,” he said.
He said a comprehensive timetable would be drawn up for the mobile clinic to visit various rural areas in the state.
“At least 100 persons will be screened on each visit to the selected centres between 10am and 4pm,” added Syed Unan Mashri.
Also present were fellow YSB Board of Trustees member Dr Cheng Joo An and YSB general manager Misbah Abdul Hamid.
