Selangor Forestry Department assistant director (enforcement and operations) Mohd Yussainy Md Yusop received a special award for his efforts to prevent the illegal logging of mangrove trees in the state.
Yussainy received the award from Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim at the state appreciation award ceremony in Shah Alam recently.
He has been transferred as a quality control consultant in the Peninsular Malaysia Forestry Depart-ment.
Since Yussainy joined the state forestry department on May 15, 2008, he was determined to stop more trees from being felled.
Good job: Yussainy (right) receiving the award from Khalid. He helped the state in gazetting more forest reserve areas and curbed encroachment into forest reserves.
Yussainy started his career on Nov 1, 2004 as an assistant training and competency director at the Peninsular Malaysia Forestry Department.
He was soon transferred to the Selangor State Forestry Department and started to work towards protecting the forest.
Yussainy worked with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency to curb illegal logging.
His efforts helped contain illegal mangrove logging in the state.
The hefty fines imposed have also discouraged the mangrove thieves.
Yussainy, 32, said it was great working with a dedicated team of officers in the department who were ever willing to listen and learn.
“There is so much I have learnt from them and will continue to do so.
“I hope the forestry officer who replaces me will do an even better job and continue to strive to protect the forest,’’ said Yussainy.
There were 31 recipients for Excellent Service Award 2011 and 15 for those who served 25 years.
