THE seven-member volunteer team from Merbok, Kedah, who were injured in an accident received aid totalling RM17,000 from the Padang Lembu Volunteer Fire Rescue Services committee.
Volunteer Chow Kok Kong, 52, died and six others were injured in the 1.30pm accident on Sunday.
A large number of people, mostly fire and rescue services volunteers, were at Chow’s home in Merbok near Sungai Petani on Sunday night where RM5,000 was presented to Chow’s wife Choo Yong Sim, 35, and their two sons aged six and nine years old.
The three injured members — Ong Chong Yao, 22, Ng Eng Chai, 46, and Lee Kean Fang, 41, — who are still hospitalised at Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim in Sungai Petani received RM3,000 each.
The others who received outpatient treatment — Liao Ching Pang, 42, Koay Beng Foo, 39, and Koay Kok Chun, 40 —were handed RM1,000 each.
Chow’s family also received RM1,000 from Merbok MCA chairman Datuk Ang Peng Kin.
The team from Merbok headed by Chow was responding to a distress call from Padang Lembu where fire had broken out at an atap house.
Chow was trying to avoid a motorcyclist and lost control. He died on the spot due to massive head injuries.
