Negri to play Sarawak in Challenge Trophy
NEGRI Sembilan will meet Sarawak in the final of the Challenge Trophy cricket competition at the Kinrara Oval in Puchong on Saturday.
Negri Sembilan qualified for the two-day competition — a two-innings event for states — after emerging the champions in Group B involving Kelantan, Terengganu and Malacca while Sarawak were tops in Group A after overcoming Sabah and Pahang.
The Malaysia Cricket Association (MCA) had revived the two innings competitions after 14 years. MCA vice-president V. Mahinda said the two innings was a platform for players to development their endurance.
“In the two-innings competitions, the players have to be fit. It is a test to the physical abilities and proved to be exciting,’’ said Mahinda.
Negri Sembilan have a formidable squad comprising international Rashid Ahad, Ariffin Ramly, Zubair Asyraf and Anuar Abdul Rahman while Sarawak, who are making a return to national competition after six years, will rely on homegrown talents.
