MUAR: Workers at the Giant Supermarket near Tanjung Agas here have spotted a crocodile lurking in nearby Sungai Muar in the evening.
Some of the workers even waited for the reptile with cameras to capture its image and one managed to snap a few shots of the crocodile recently.
Khairi Othman, 32, from Tanjung Agas nearby, said he first heard about the reptile in the river about one week ago when some night anglers claimed to spot it under the Muar bridge.
“On June 16 at about 6pm, I spotted the crocodile in the river just behind the supermarket. It was moving towards the sea about 200m away,” he said recently.
Danger lurking: The crocodile was spotted in Sungai Muar behind the Giant Hypermarket. Khairi, who works nearby, said he lived in Tanjung Agas near the supermarket and had not seen any crocodile in Sungai Muar before.
He said it was the first time he saw one alive and swimming freely in the river and estimated its length to be between eight and 10 feet.
To a question he said the crocodile had a bulky snout and he believed it could be a saltwater crocodile.
He also said that the reptile was seen before dusk and he added several anglers fishing at night on the Muar bridge had also spotted it several times.
“Although it was not huge but its appearance in the river has started to attract interest, especially among night anglers on the bridge and workers at the supermarket,” he added.
