Lashing her way back to KL
WEEKLY trance night, Tranceland, celebrates its first anniversary at @Maison tonight with a special gig featuring the return of one of the legendary Queens of the British electronic dance music scene — the hard-hitting Lisa Lashes.
Having been actively involved in the scene for close to 20 years now, the Midlands-born Lisa Dawn Rose Wyatt used to be known as the Queen of Hard House, but has, over the last few years, soundscaped her way into the musical realms of trance.
Lisa is still the only woman to have ever scaled the Top 10 of British dance magazine DJ Mag’s male dominated annual Top 100 poll (back in 2000).
Sound the alarm: Lisa Lashes has moved from hard house to trance and will be rocking the crowd tonight at @Maison. Since her golden days of hard house, Lisa has diversified her sound, slowing the BPMs and incorporating uplifting and tech trance into her sets, which now see her playing as a global headliner on the international scene alongside such stars as Sander van Doorn, Marco V and Ferry Corsten.
This more mature and diverse sound is represented by her hugely successful Lashed Podcast (which she began in 2010) and whilst still only in its infancy, has already picked up over 70,000 subscribers.
This sound has been incorporated into the 2010 relaunch of the Lashed events she first founded back in 2003 with concise music progressing and a much more diverse line up of guests — ranging from Irish superstar John O Callaghan to Germany’s Scot Project and Dutch producer Sied Van Riel to Musical Madness head honcho Marcel Woods.
She’s also been hard at work in the studio pushing her new sound through with several releases already under her belt on labels including High Contrast, Spinnin, Musical Madness & Discover.
Tonight, Tranceland will be hosted, as always, by its founder misterAriffin, one of the main exponents of the Malaysian trance music scene of today, and supported by Adham Nasri.
@Maison is located at 14, Jalan Yap Ah Shak, Kuala Lumpur. Admission (with one drink): pre-sale RM15 ladies / RM35 men. Door charge: RM50. Reservations, call Chris Ee 012-397 1207.
