Devotee in accident succumbs to injuries
GEORGE TOWN: The Hindu devotee who was involved in an accident near the Waterfall Hilltop Temple has died.
Retiree K.G. Agnes Singhonamy, 68, succumbed to multiple body injuries, three days after the 7pm accident on Saturday.
She was pronounced dead at about 3am at the Penang Hospital yesterday.
Agnes and eight others, including the driver, were injured when the 4WD car they were travelling in veered out of control and landed on its side while ascending the steep road in Jalan Kebun Bunga.
Another passenger D. Rajan, 53, said the car seemed to lack power as it struggled to ascend the steep road.
“All of a sudden, it came to a halt. Then suddenly, it was in reverse and all of us panicked.
“I thought we were all going to die,” he said when met at Penang Hospital mortuary yesterday.
Agnes’s son Ratnasena T.B. Piyadasa, 46, said his mother, from Johor, had just visited St Anne’s Church in Bukit Mertajam before the tragic incident.
