IN LINE with the Ramadan tradition of breaking fast with dates, Petaling Jaya mayor Datuk Mohamad Roslan Sakiman recently distributed boxes of dates to Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) staff for their buka puasa.
“Dates are nutritious. Our body benefits from the high level of natural sugar found in the fruit. Muslims eat dates after long hours of fasting as it helps in the digestive process and gives them energy.
Nutricious gift: Roslan (second from right) giving out dates to council staff. “It is not good to eat large quantities of food immediately after breaking fast,” he said, adding that he was told dates help protect the stomach and intestinal tract from parasites and bacteria.
“During this Ramadan we must continue to work hard to ensure the council serves the city’s ratepayers well.
“We must respond to public complaints and resolve problems fast,” he said.
