ONLY visitors who have time to spare would have had the pleasure of enjoying the blooms at Taman Rusa in front of the Petaling Jaya City Council’s headquarters in Jalan Yong Shook Lin.
The garden is best appreciated on hot afternoons when the sun’s heat is unmerciful. The think foliage of the trees in the garden offer shade and a cool respite for those out shopping or running errands in the commercial area.
Students from colleges in the PJ New Town area are also often seen holding discussions in the garden.
All-Petaling Jaya Residents Selangor Residents Association Coalition (APAC) adviser Moha-med Umar Peer Mohamed said city folk value green living spaces like Taman Rusa as it allows them to enjoy a serene moment during lunch hour.
Joyful sight: Beautiful blooms welcome visitors to Taman Rusa at the entrance of the MBPJ office. “During Ramadan, office workers who are fasting come to just sit, relax and enjoy the surroundings during lunch hour. I like to come here to enjoy the breeze,” he said.
Mohamed Umar added that the council’s choice of Heliconia pendula or birds of paradise, frangipani, banana trees, palms and some rainforest trees were good.
“This garden is in the wind belt and to capture the breeze in the garden, wind chimes should be hung. I think the sounds of chimes when the wind rustles through the leaves would be soothing to vistors,” he said.
“The garden adds colour and vibrant energy to the PJ New Town commercial area,” he added.
