Keep prices reasonable, says Tan

GEORGE TOWN: Ramadan bazaar traders are advised to keep their prices at a reasonable level in view that the Hari Raya celebrations are around the corner.

Deputy Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Tan Lian Hoe said the bazaars had grown to become strong business activities for trading and food sales.

Also, other races besides the Malay community are now heading to the bazaars, which offer a variety of local delicacies and dishes as well as other cottage industry products.

“I advise the traders to keep their prices at a reasonable level so that the festive mood can be felt by all. With visitors of all races coming to the bazaars, such enterprises will help in boosting the country’s economy,” she said after visiting the Ramadan bazaar stalls in Jalan Utama near the Penang Hospital yesterday.

Tan added that traders should also display price tags at their stalls to avoid being issued with a compound.

“With the price tags, consumers can see and compare before making a choice of their purchase,” she said, adding that the traders at the bazaar were found to have displayed price tags.

She also disclosed that the ministry was conducting checks to ensure that the traders display price tags for their items.

“If they still do not comply with instructions, even after we have advised them, they will be issued with compounds.
