Curbing cross-border crime

MUAR: Every country, especially those in the region, should work together in trying to curb cross-border crime, including terrorism threats.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said the world today had ‘no borders’ and every country had to watch out for such elements.
Speaking to reporters here he said cross-border crime, especially in terrorism threat, was still under control in Malaysia but the matter needed to be closely monitored.
“We feel there are needs for countries in the region to work together in combating cross-border crime.
Checkpoint: Officers looking through the goods. “Another threat is crime related with drugs which cross into our borders,” he said after representing the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak at the raising of Jalur Gemilang programme here on Tuesday.
Hishammuddin said he feared the drug money could reach the terrorists and all efforts should be taken to prevent such thing from happening.
He said Malaysia had signed several agreements with the United States in matters related with terrorism and crime to curb cross-border crimes.
He said he did not want Malaysian children, regardless of race, to be used as tools by those involved in drug smuggling and urged everyone to be alert.
“We always monitor the crime situation in the region as we don’t want anything to jeopardise our stability,” he added.
