“Sports is one effective means to increase integration and understanding among youths, as well as allowing them to learn planning and organisation skills that are important elements for future leaders.”

Ong said the “1 Student, 1 Sport” policy by the Education Ministry would not only help in the integration of all races but also have an impact on community programmes.

“The rapid social and economic growth is causing changes in social values among the young generation,” she said.

“As it is an important area that we cannot ignore, schools should play an active role to run more extra-curricular activities for the students. which would also help reduce the school dropout and runaway rate.”

Ong later presented a cheque of RM1,500 to the school, as well as 200 sachets of durian flavoured-coffee and shopping bags for the school’s Parents’ Day celebration.

Present at the event were school headmistress Rahanim Abdul Rahim and Parent Teacher Association chairman Andy Oon.
