Muslims gather for annual open-air buka puasa event
By NIK NAIZI HUSIN
KUANTAN: Thousands of Muslims from Kuantan town and neighbouring areas as well as visitors from Terengganu, Johor and Kelantan gathered to enjoy an open-air style buka puasa at the Kuantan Municipal Council field, here.
The field, which is located at Jalan Mahkota and next to the Sultan Ahmad Shah mosque, was a convenient venue for them to have their breaking of fast, followed by the Maghrib prayer in the mosque.
Sulaiman Saad, 37, from Johor said he was on his way to Kuala Terengganu and was looking for a suitable place to break his fast.
“I passed by Jalan Mahkota and wanted to buy some food for buka puasa when I saw many people gathered on the field.
“I asked around and was informed that many people liked to break fast here with their families, and so I joined them,” he said.
The buka puasa at the field has been a practice during the fasting month for city folk for many years now.
Over the years, more and more Muslims have gathered at the field to break fast.
