PETALING Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has engaged security guards to monitor the low-cost flats (PPRT) in Section 8, Kota Damansara to put a stop to metal theft.
Mayor Datuk Mohamad Roslan Sakiman said the move to employ guards came about as the thieves stole the Hot Dip Galvanising (HDG) steel brackets used to fasten 45,000-gallon tanks atop the flats.
Without the steel brackets, the stability of these water tanks were affected and endangering the lives of the residents.
Outside help: Security guards hired by MBPJ having a chat with Section 8 residents while ensuring safety in the area. “With the guards around, it will not be easy to commit crime,” he said.
Roslan added that two guards would be stationed to patrol the four blocks of flats during the day while four guards would be on duty at night for each block.
“The security guards are from Troopers Security Services and will help to create a safer environment. It will serve as a deterrent for thieves and vandals,” he said.
Kota Damansara community chairman Johari Nander, 46, said the area’s councillor should also visit the area more often and help address issues affecting the residents.
Johari also said MBPJ’s move to hire security guards was welcomed.
Meanwhile, Friends of Kota Damansara co-chairman Jeffrey Phang said he was glad that MBPJ would soon install close-circuit television cameras for the PPRT Kota Damansara.
“This will help create awareness among residents to care for the facilities provided for them,” he said.
