State presents Raya goodies to 30 needy folk
MORE needy folk have received aid from the Penang Government in conjunction with Ramadan.
The state gave out food items to 30 disabled people and single mothers in a simple ceremony at Komtar.
State Religious Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Malik Abul Kassim said the contribution was part of the state government’s effort to ensure the people’s wellbeing.
“Every year, we hand out aid to needy families and individuals so that they can celebrate Hari Raya and other festivals in a better way.
“The 30 recipients this time are those who had earlier missed out on the distribution,” he said after giving out the items, each comprising a bag of rice and a food hamper, during the recent event.
Masseur Husaini Haji Bakar, 42, who is visually impaired, said he was glad that the state government was looking into the needs of the disabled.
“The contribution will be put to good use. But with the increasing cost of living, I hope the state government can provide more aid to us,” he said.
He suggested that contributions in the form of cash or household appliances could also be given out.
Another visually impaired masseur, Samsu Zirani Mat Ripin, 27, said he was thankful to the state government for providing the items to help ease their burden.
