Zaid still uncertain of contesting polls

SUNGAI PETANI: Kita president Datuk Zaid Ibrahim will contest in the next general election if his health holds up.
Zaid is believed to be suffering from a heart ailment, which has kept him unwell of late.
“If I feel strong enough, I might contest,” he said after attending a Hari Raya Adil Fitri function in Sungai Lalang near here yesterday.
When asked if the party has intention to place candidates in all states, Zaid said Kita’s resources were limited.
“Nevertheless, we are trying to have candidates to contest in other states. However, the priority is still in Kedah as the party is active in the state,” he said.
During the event, the party also announced its candidate’s line-up for Kedah.

Among the candidates, seven are new politicians in which two are contesting parliamentary seats while the remaining five are for state seats.
State chairman Kamal Nasser Thow Beek will be contesting the Bukit Selambau seat.
The other candidates it has lined up to contest state seats are Cherean Isen (Sungai Tiang), Ong Choon Seng (Gurun), A. Appadorai (Kuala Ketil), Samransak Kram (Pedu), Azhar Ahmad (Bakar Bata), Wan Rosli Omar (Merbau Pulas) and Vincent Tuh (Bakar Arang).
Its candidates for parliamentary seats are N. Periasamay (Padang Serai), Suhaimi Hashim (Sungai Petani) and Sanan Maniratana Eplat (Pendang).
All are businessmen except Appadorai, a journalist.
However, Kita’s plans to contest is also subjected to a ruling from the Registrar of Societies concerning the legitimacy of the party after another faction headed by Zamil Ibrahim has laid claimed that he is the rightful leader of the party.
Zaid was a former Umno stalwart before joining PKR. He quit PKR in a huff to form his own party — Kita.
