DSLR camera offers superior image quality
Nikon Corporation released its new D600 digital SLR camera. Despite having the smallest and lightest body among Nikon FX-format cameras, the D600 offers advanced performance.
It is equipped with a new FX-format CMOS image sensor with 24.3-million effective pixels and the same Expeed 3 image-processing engine built into high-end Nikon DSLRs (D4, D800, D800E) for superior definition and image quality.
The D600 was unveiled to the media in Kuala Lumpur during an event officiated by managing director of Nikon (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and Nikon Singapore Pte Ltd Masanobu Tsunoda. Also present were general manager of Consumer Products Marketing Dept David Ng, general manager of Consumer Products Sales Dept S. T. Hon and senior manager, Nikon Professional Service Mahfooz NR.
The media were also given a first-hand look at some of the other latest Nikon products, namely the Nikon 1 J2, the Nikon Coolpix P7700, Nikon Coolpix L610 and the Nikon Coolpix S-Series.

In his speech, Tsunoda proudly announced that Nikon had clinched the No. 1 position in the total camera category for DSLR and CDSC + mirrorless, with a market share of 29.9% in the latest July GFK report.
Tsunoda said: “Nikon has achieved the No. 1 position for compact cameras with its market share reaching 25.6%. And with each new line-up of uniquely designed cameras, we aim to compete even stronger in the CDSC market. Meanwhile in the DSLR market, Nikon had come back strongly in the DSLR segment and achieved market share of 47%, making it the No. 1 DSLR brand again after the Nikon DSLR supply in Malaysia reverted to normal in May 2012 following the Thailand flood in Oct 2011.”
The D600 is the latest and most compact model in the Nikon FX-format digital SLR lineup at approximately 141 (W) × 113 (H) × 82 (D) mm, 760 g1. It is portable yet offers the superior image quality and rendering performance, operation, and durability of high-end FX-format D-SLRs.
In addition to a new FX-format CMOS image sensor with 24.3-million effective pixels and the same Expeed 3 image-processing engine built into high-end models, the D600 boasts a number of advanced features, including an optical viewfinder with 100% two-frame coverage, a large and clear 3.2-inch LCD monitor with wide angle viewing, and the same dust and water-resistance as the D800 and D800E.
The FX-format camera also supports the complete DX Nikkor lens line-up for greater convenience with both still image shooting and movie recording. The D600 makes full use of its 24.3-million effective pixels with high-resolution, full-HD movie recording (1920 × 1080/30p).
It is also equipped with the Multi-area mode Full-HD D-Movie function, which enables recording in either FX- or DX-based movie format for more creative freedom.
The D600 is ready for a hands-on experience at the Nikon Centre (Berjaya Times Square), Nikon Shop KLCC, and Nikon Shop Alamanda, Putrajaya. The recommended selling price is RM7,998 (D600 body) and RM9,598 (D600 kit with AF-S 24-85mm f/3.5-4.4G VR).
