RM20,000 from wedding book sale for BCWA
ADAMAS Weddings Sdn Bhd, a wedding planning consultancy, contributed RM20,000 to the Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia (BCWA ) Fund recently.
A cheque for the amount was presented by Adamas Weddings founder Dr Khoo Kien Ling to BCWA CEO Ranjit Kaur at a simple ceremony witnessed by Adamas and BCWA staff at the BCWA headquarters in Petaling Jaya.
The money was from the sale of Adamas Weddings’ first book, 99 Tips For Your Wedding authored by Dr Khoo.
Adamas Weddings is Malaysia’s first and only licensed institution that offers the American-based and internationally recognised Weddings Beautiful Malaysia and Singapore certification course for wedding planners.
For a good cause: Ranjit (second from left) receiving the donation from Dr Khoo (second from right). “We have dedicated our pilot fundraising endeavour to helping women live healthier lives by supporting empowerment and educational programmes that teach women to be vigilant about their breast health,” said Dr Khoo.
“We feel strongly about supporting a cause that raises awareness of the leading threat of death in women as a result of breast cancer in Malaysia. In fact, we recently invited BCWA to conduct a workshop on “Early Detection of Breast Cancer” for our students at the Adamas School of Weddings,” she added.
Ranjit said: “It is heartening to note that so many individuals continue to support the fight against breast cancer in light of recent heightened publicity and awareness surrounding other social issues in the country.
“Although advancement in medical technology has helped prevent premature deaths, breast cancer continues to remain the number one threat among women, afflicting one in 20 above the age of 25,” she added.
Dr Khoo sold approximately 700 copies of her self-published book, 99 Tips For Your Wedding over a period of one month to raise funds for BCWA. She said working with her students brought about many realisations that inspired her to write the book.
“We discovered what really makes people tick and useful tips in making any couples’ dream wedding a reality. 99 Tips For Your Wedding is an amalgamation of all our experiences to date,” she said.
The book 99 Tips For Your Wedding was launched in December 2011 by founder-president of the Malaysia Young Female Entrepreneur Network (MyFren), Tengku Faizwa Tengku Razif.
Written in a breezy, light-hearted manner, the book features nuggets of useful information and quirky but practical insights and anecdotes as well as ideas for ready-to-wed couples who are looking to plan their own wedding.
To get a copy of the book, head on to the nearest MPH or Kinokuniya bookstore or contact Adamas Weddings at 03-61508751/8623 or 017 3008522.
