Full of fun and frolic at Chap Goh Meh celebrations

For good luck: The public seizing the opport unity to touch and snap photographs with the reflective dragon. KUANTAN: The 15-day celebrations to usher in the Year of the Snake came to a grand finale with a host of activities at the Wan Fo Tien temple in Jalan Bukit Ubi here.
The programme, held in conjunction with Chap Goh Meh, started with a brief dharma talk by Pahang
Buddhist Association (PBA) adviser Venerable Sik Ji Xing.
Venerable Sik reminded the people to seize the opportunity to do good deeds which could benefit other sentient beings.
“Let’s enhance the virtue of forgiveness and pardon all those who have hurt your feelings.
“Our mind will be in peace and harmony if we hold no grudges and treat everyone as friends,” he said to a crowd of some 3,000 people who turned up in droves despite a drizzle to mark the end of the Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations.
Emotional: A Chinese opera performance to entertain the crowd. Also present were PBA president Hor Chin Sim and vice-president Datuk Franky Chua Goon Eng.
Venerable Sik also urged the people to adopt a caring attitude, in addition to expressing love and respect for their parents and the elderly.
”I hope everyone will lead a healthy, happy and fulfilling life,” he said before leading the crowd for a chanting session.
Among the performances lined up were cultural and festive songs and dances, Chinese traditional instruments, a Chinese opera, solving of riddles, in addition to reflective dragon and lion dances at the main prayer’s hall.
There was also a Goddess of Prosperity making her rounds to give out red packets to the people.
Many took the opportunity to take photographs with the reflective dragon, colourful surroundings and a fireworks display.
Meanwhile, Hor said the celebration was a yearly programme organised to mark the 15th day of the Chinese Lunar New Year.
He said the crowd was lesser due to a slight drizzle and an earlier programme held for the first time on the eighth day of the new year.
Glowing: A fireworks display lighting up the night sky towards the end of the programme to mark Chap Goh Meh celebrations. ”This is a good platform to help promote Chinese culture and tradition as well as foster closer ties among the people,” he said, while expressing his gratitude to all parties and dedicated staff for making the event a success year after year.
