Little firemen: Children dressed as fire fighters rushing to the fire “disaster scene” at the KidZania indoor education theme park. DRESSED in bright yellow coats and wearing black helmets, the “fire fighters” arrived at the scene of a burning hotel, quickly working to douse the fire while “paramedics” treated the injured and “policeman” controlled the crowd.
It was very realistic, but the difference in this scene was that these heroes were children and they were having a fun time learning to be independent at KidZania Kuala Lumpur, an indoor educational theme park.
Oldtown Bhd corporate social responsibility division organised a recent trip on April 19 to the theme park for 73 orphans and underprivileged children aged three to 18, from Pertubuhan Kebajikan Harapan Baru, Praise Girls’ Home and Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim dan Miskin Chemor.
The children were able to learn about various professions, such as being doctors, lawyers, newscasters and even forensic scientists and earn their first “salary” after completing a task, in the form of a currency called “kidzos”.
The “kidzos” could be exchanged for gifts at the gift shop or could be used for the next visit.
Life-savers: A KidZania staff educating the children on paramedic assistance on a fire victim at the KidZania indoor education theme park. Oldtown’s senior corporate social responsibilities executive Kathy Chew said the experience was one not to be missed for the children.
“By trying out different careers, the children have obtained valuable knowledge that they can use in their lives.
“The tasks also allow the children to experience various challenges and gauge their level of interest in the career,” she said.
