IPOH city councillor Liew See Fan will resign his post from the city council, abiding by MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek’s and the party’s decision not to accept any government post after a dismal general election result.
The Ipoh Barat MCA Youth division vice chairman said although he was appointed as the local councillor under the allocation for non-governmental organisations, it was only right for him to follow the path of other party members who had resigned from all governmental posts.
“I am also a party member and a lot of party members throughout the country have already announced their resignation from their posts,” he said, adding that he was also Waller Court Rukun Tetangga secretary.
“This is purely my decision and I do not want to contradict or to complicate any matters,” he told journalists here on Thursday.
On Sunday, party president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek stressed that the party would stick to its decision not to accept any government posts if MCA performed worse than the 2008 general election.
Liew, who was appointed in 2010, said he would continue to assist those who needed his help, even though he would no longer be a local councillor.
“I have gotten used to serving the people as both a party member and a local councillor and I will continue to help in any way I can,” he said.
He also hoped the people, especially in Jelapang where he was appointed to look after, would understand and respect his decision.
“If given the opportunity to serve again in the future, I will always do my best,” he added.
