Handing it out: Nalini (in green uniform) distributing the Ipoh International Starwalk 2013 registration forms to students at the school. SMK Convent Ipoh student Nur Patrisyia Yusof, 15, wants to emulate her father’s success and do well in the coming Ipoh International Starwalk 2013.
She said her father’s achievement - one of the top 100 runners in the competition category last year – had motivated her to perform better in the race.
“During weekends, I would jog around my house in Bandar Seri Botani for three hours in the morning.
“My father also gave me useful advice on how to improve my speed and sta- mina,” she said after receiving the Ipoh International Starwalk 2013 entry form from Star Publications (M) Bhd circulation executive V. Sreedaran Nair and marketing representative S. Bathiban at the school on Wednesday.
Nur Patrisyia said her father, who was in his 60s, had no intention of taking part in the event this year as his age was catching up.
Another student, Shareen Phoon, 15, was determined to obtain a participation certificate and hoped that she would not repeat the mistake she made last year.
“I was ‘misled’ into taking the wrong route and that has cost me the chance of getting the certificate.
“I will definitely be more alert this time,” she said, adding that she would be taking part in the non-competition category.
Fifteen-year-old twin sisters B. Shamelia and B. Shanita, both experienced runners, strive to excel in the Ipoh International Starwalk 2013.
The elder sister Shamelia said they had taken part and won many races in various school and district-level competitions.
“We hope our regular training would help us perform well in the competition,” said Shanita.
SMK Convent Ipoh principal A Nalini said both students and teachers looked forward to participating in the mega event.
