GE13: Dr Mah: Spirit of Chenderiang lives on
CHENDERIANG assemblyman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon has attributed his win against PKR’s orang asli activist Amani Williams-Hunt Abdullah or Bah Tony in the recently concluded general election to “Semangat Chenderiang” (Spirit of Chenderiang).
Dr Mah said the people in his constituency understood and were aware of what was happening locally despite the influences of the social media and Internet that converted a lot of young voters to support Pakatan Rakyat.
“The people here are matured and can evaluate for themselves the services the party (MCA) and the state government has contributed.
“Instead of being influenced by their children whom most have returned from bigger cities or abroad, the people here knew better not to be swayed.
“I hope the younger voters too, will think and evaluate for themselves and know how to differentiate facts from fiction on sources found on the Internet,” he told journalists during his visit to Kampung Baru Chenderiang to thank the voters on Thursday.
Dr Mah said he managed to obtain a 40% increase in support compared to the 2008 general election.
He polled 10,866 and defeated Bah Tony with a 4,767 majority.
He also said that Bah Tony was gracious in defeat and accepted the results like a true “gentleman”.
“The election campaign period was also fair and clean,” he added.
Dr Mah also said he would do his best to bring more development to the constituency.
“There are several areas that can be developed further as tourism spots.
“I can try to get investors in to develop these and make them known internationally.
“The Tapah Road has the potential to be turned into an education hub,” he added.
