GOPENG MP Dr Lee Boon Chye has proposed that a dual carriageway be built on the road linking Simpang Pulai to Station 18 in Pengkalan to ease the traffic congestion there.
He said a dual carriageway would provide easy access for roadusers commuting between the two areas.
“I will submit a proposal on the road’s upgrade to the Ipoh City Council and I hope the city council will look into my suggestion,” he told reporters after a walkabout with Simpang Pulai assemblyman Tan Kar Hing to thank voters at the Ampang new village wet market on Friday.
The road, which is approximately 11km-long, leads from the Simpang Pulai industrial site and housing areas in Bandar Seri Botani to Station 18 commercial area.
On the development of Station 18, Dr Lee said he would recommend that a comprehensive healthcare centre be built in the vibrant business hub.
“Station 18 is a populated area and many residents there are low wage earners. Better access to public healthcare services will ease their financial burden,” he said.
He would also propose for more futsal courts to be built so that young people would have a place for recreational activities.
Dr Lee, who was given the mandate by constituents for a second term, said he would submit his proposals to the respective authorities.
“I will follow up on the development projects should my proposals be accepted,” he said.
During the walkabout, many Ampang new village residents and wet market traders took the opportunity to inform Dr Lee on some of the problems they faced.
Among the complaints they made to Dr Lee were about potholes along the village road and uncovered drains at the wet market.
Tan was seen jotting down residents’ requests in his note book.
