Contests for musicians next month
CALLING all musicians! Gurney Plaza is accepting entries for two music competitions to be held in conjunction with its Sound of Music Festival in June.
First up is the Pop Jazz Piano Duet/Solo Instrumental Performance Competition, which will see the audition being held on June 15.
The best 20 acts will proceed to the finals on June 22. The event starts at 2pm on both days, at the mall’s New Wing Atrium.
It is open to anyone aged 13 and above, and participants may be solo, or perform as a duet. The duration of the performance should be below eight minutes, and participants will have to perform the same piece for both the audition and final.
The champion will walk away with cash and prizes worth over RM2,450, while the second and third placed finishers win goodies worth around RM2,000 and RM1,400 respectively. Judging will be based on the musicians’ technique, artistry, interpretation, expression and creativity.
Next up is the Roland V-Drum Contest on June 23, beginning at 2pm. It is similarly open to anyone aged above 13, but limited to the first 20 contestants.
Participants must bring along their own drum sticks and pedals for the contest, but are free to perform according to their own styles and expressions, as long as it does not include elements of violence or obscenities.
Cash and prizes worth around RM2,250, RM1,400 and RM1,050 await the champion, runner-up and third-placed winner respecti-vely.
Those interested to sign up for the contests can obtain the entry forms at the mall’s Information Counter, located on the ground floor. Closing date for all entries is May 15.
