Cousins keen to join walk

SMK Raja Perempuan Ipoh student P. Erica, 19, is excited that her cousin from Johor Baru will be joining her in the Ipoh International Starwalk 2013 which will be flagged off at Stadium Indera Mulia on June 16.
Erica said her 17-year-old cousin, an experienced runner, would come to Ipoh to take part in the event’s competition category for the first time.
“He is just as eager as I am,” she said after receiving the Ipoh International Starwalk 2013 entry form from Star Publications (M) Bhd circulation executive V. Sreedaran Nair and marketing representative S. Bathiban at the school on Wed-nesday.
Erica said she had been exercising regularly to build up her stamina while drinking lots of water to keep her body hydrated all the time.
Another student Yong Yee Mun, 19, said she wanted to make a come- back in the competition category this year.
Yong said she was ranked 12th in the sporting event about two years ago but had failed to maintain the position last year due to lack of training.
“I have been training again this year and I want to come back stronger,” she said.
Amirah Yahya, 19, said she was excited to join Starwalk for the first time.
“Though I am taking part in the non-competition category, I still want to build up my stamina by jogging with my family members at least twice a week,” she said.
SMK Raja Perempuan Ipoh’s sports secretary Napisah Yahya hoped at least 1,000 students could take part in the event.
“We will encourage them to participate in the walk as it promotes a healthier lifestyle,” she said.
The public can register for the Ipoh International Starwalk 2013 at The Star’s Ipoh office, No 8-10, Lorong Chung Thye Phin, from 9am to 5pm from Mondays to Saturdays.
Registration can also be done online at www.thestar.com.my by May 17 for the competition category for RM15, and by May 31 for non-competition category for RM10.
Each participant will get a T-shirt and goodie bag while those who complete the walk within the stipulated time stand to win attractive prizes.
