‘Person of interest’ held Cops get big break in Customs deputy D-G’s murder case
KUALA LUMPUR: Police finally got a big break in the murder of Customs deputy director-general Datuk Shaharuddin Ibrahim with the arrest of 56-year-old man in Petaling Jaya.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohmad Salleh said the suspect was detained by a special task force at about 8.30am on Saturday.
“We believe the suspect is a person of interest.
“He has been detained to help investigations into the murder of Shaharuddin,” he said in a statement yesterday.
The suspect has been remanded until May 18.
Meanwhile, City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Ku Chin Wah said the man detained was not the main suspect.
“We expect to make more arrests soon,” he said, adding the man was not connected to any drug syndicate.
As of today, more than 35 people have been questioned by police in connection with Shaharu-ddin’s murder.
Shaharuddin, who headed the Customs and Internal Tax Unit division, was a year away from retirement when he was shot on April 26.
