Race to the finishing line will be a family affair
SMK Perempuan Methodist Ipoh (MGS) student Nur Marissa Adlyshah is looking forward to meeting her relatives, who will be travelling up north to take part in the Ipoh International Starwalk 2013.
Nur Marissa, 15, said her relatives and cousins from Kuala Lumpur would be participating in the Starwalk, which would be flagged off at Stadium Indera Mulia on June 16.
“We will also be holding a family gathering after completing the race.
“I am very excited and I look forward to meeting them soon,” she said after receiving the Ipoh Interna-tional Starwalk 2013 entry form from Star Publications (M) Bhd circulation executive V. Sreedaran Nair and marketing representative S. Bathiban at the school recently.
Nur Marrissa’s fellow schoolmate Rebecca Anthony said it was an impromptu decision for her to take part in the walk this year.
“I have never participated in the event before but feel that I could give it a try, since most of my friends are planning to take part in it,” said Rebecca, 15.
Another student Melissa Wong, 15, hoped to complete the race wi-thin 100 minutes, the same target she had set for the sporting event last year.
MGS principal Datin Mungit Kaur said the students had shown tremendous enthusiasm in the event.
“It is very encouraging to see them so active in sporting events and extra co-curriculum activities,” she said.
Ipoh International Starwalk 2013 is jointly organised by Star Publi-cations (M) Bhd and the Ipoh City Council, with the cooperation of the state Education Department.
The walk is divided into the 10km competition Malaysian category, 10km competition International ca-tegory (open to all with qualifying time below 50min) and 7km non-competition category.
The public can register at The Star’s Ipoh office at No. 8-10, Lorong Chung Thye Phin, from Mondays to Saturdays from 9am to 5pm.
The registration fee is RM20 (In-ternational) and RM15 (Malaysian) for competition walkers and RM10 for non-competition walkers.
Deadline is May 17 for the competition event and May 31 for the non-competition category.
