Canny Ong’s killer to hang today

Ahmad Najib Aris

Former aircraft cabin cleaning supervisor Ahmad Najib Aris will be executed Friday after he was convicted by the High Court for the rape and murder of IT analyst Canny Ong in 2003. Ahmad Najib will be hanged at the Kajang Prison and buried in a Muslim cemetery located behind the Kajang Hospital. According to a source, Ahmad Najib’s mother could not see him for the last time in prison as she is in weak condition. On Feb 23, 2005, the Shah Alam High Court sentenced Ahmad Najib to death for raping and murdering Ong, 29, at the 11th kilometre of Jalan Klang Lama between 1am and 5am on June 14, 2003. This follows a unanimous decision by the Federal Court in March 2009 to uphold his death sentence for the crimes committed on Ong, whose charred remains were found in a manhole near a highway construction site.
