Murder may have been planned
By ANDREW SAGAYAM
PETALING JAYA: The kidnap and murder of seven-year-old Ho Ping is believed to be premeditated because the bag in which his body was stuffed was bought weeks earlier.
Police investigating the case have not ruled out that possibility and are now searching for another female Chinese national who would be able to confirm their suspicion.
The woman, said to be the mistress of the 28-year-old key suspect, shared a rented flat in Jawi, Penang, with the female Chinese national who was arrested on Saturday and is believed to have gone into hiding.
CALM EXTERIOR: Ho Ping’s parents sorting his clothes prior to placing them into his coffin at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre in Petaling Jaya yesterday. Sources said police were investigating the possibility that Ho Ping was given sleeping pills after he was abducted from his house in SS19 Subang Jaya on Thursday night and brought to Jawi before being drugged.
However, they are waiting for blood test results to confirm that, and to determine what type of drug was used.
They said the suspect – a close relative of the Ho’s – was believed to have rushed back from Penang in the wee hours of Friday morning and arrived at Subang Jaya at about 8am to join Ho Ping's father Ho Chan Cheah and his sons in searching for the boy.
It is learnt that the relative even accompanied Ho to the Subang Jaya police station after Ho received a telephone call from a woman who demanded RM500,000 in ransom for Ho Ping's safe return.
As for the Chinese national who was arrested on Saturday in Penang, sources said the 34-year-old woman worked as a guest relations officer at a karaoke lounge in Bukit Mertajam.
It is learnt that the suspect is heavily in debt and had asked Ho Ping’s father for RM80,000.
Ho refused as he had given the relative RM50,000 to settle his debts a month ago.
Ho had last Thursday lodged a missing person’s report when he could not find his seven-year-old son.
He lodged another report the following day, after he received the telephone call from the woman demanding a ransom.
Police arrested the relative on Saturday.
He later led them to Sungai Sitiawan where Ho Ping's body was found.
