Altantuya, 28, is believed to have been shot dead before her body was blown to bits with explosives at a secondary forest near the Subang Dam in Puncak Alam, Shah Alam in 2006.

KUALA LUMPUR: The police must look into the motive behind the 2006 murder of Mongolian model Altantuya Shariibuu, says a KL lawmaker.

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng, who lodged a report for the police to reopen the case, said both the High Court and Federal Court had failed to discover the motive behind the act, nor the identity of the person who ordered the murder.

In 2009, two former policemen, Sirul Azhar Umar and Azilah Hadri, were convicted of murdering Altantuya and were sentenced to death, although the Court of Appeal overturned this in 2013.

"Sirul has said he is willing to reveal what happened and his statement should be recorded.

"The people responsible for Altantuya's murder should be charged with abetting the murder," Lim said on Saturday (May 26).

He lodged the report at the Jinjang police station here on Saturday morning.

This came after Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said Bukit Aman had not reopened the case as there were no grounds to do so because no new police reports have been lodged.

Altantuya, 28, is believed to have been shot dead before her body was blown to bits with explosives at a secondary forest near the Subang Dam in Puncak Alam, Shah Alam in 2006.

Former political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda, who was charged together with the two policemen, was freed on Oct 31, 2008, after the court found no concrete evidence against him.

Sirul later fled to Australia.

Recently, when Pakatan Harapan took over the Federal Government after GE14, PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim suggested that Sirul be brought back to Malaysia for a fresh trial.

Sirul has said he is willing to reveal what happened in the case if he is given a full pardon to return to Malaysia.
