KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has the potential to becoming a top regional medical tourism destination but needd to focus and push forward, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin Tuesday.

Muhyiddin said Malaysia had the facilities, the expertise and the advantage of cost, but could still lose out to neighbouring countries if it remained "ambiguous about its positioning".

"We are at an important waypoint where we can either remain a marginal player in the regional healthcare industry, or market our healthcare offerings aggressively," said Muhyiddin, during the launch of Pantai Hospital's new heart centre.

"Even with the best doctors, staff and equipment at hand, if we continue to vacillate, we will lose out to our neighbours who are clear about what they have to offer," he said.
