KUALA LUMPUR: Twenty-four-year-old Yap Wei Yee could not resist buying six special stamps issued by Pos Malaysia to commemorate the coming Lunar Year. Yap was Born in the Year of the Dragon and the stamps bear a dragon motif.

“I hope the stamps will bring me good luck and I will secure a new job soon,” said Yap who has quit her job as an auditor.

The avid stamp collector was among hundreds of Malaysians who crowded post offices yesterday to buy the commemorative stamps, which come in RM3 and RM5 denominations.

Pos Malaysia head of stamps and philately unit Yasmin Ramli said there was an overwhelming response for the stamps.

“Pos Malaysia decided to come up with the dragon design to add to the cheer of Chinese New Year celebration.

“Malaysians, especially the Chinese, like to collect auspicious presents so we decided to come up with such stamps,” she said.

Yasmin said some 25,000 pieces of RM3 stamps and 20,000 pieces of the RM5 stamps were produced in conjunction with the Year of the Dragon.

The stamps, measuring 60mm x 50mm, are available for sale.

Pos Malaysia also issued a new collection of stamps themed “The Legacy of Weave” featuring the art of weaving traditional textiles from various communities in Malaysia.

The stamps, which feature textiles like songket and Chinese silk, come in the 60 sen denomination.

All the stamps can be bought at general post offices and Pos Malaysia's stamp bureaus while stocks last.
