PTPTN debate draws lively Twitter chat

PETALING JAYA: The PTPTN debate between Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and PKR strategic director Rafizi Ramli drew lively chat on Twitter.

The discussion ranged from why higher education should be free to its future direction.

With both sides having their own supporters in the debate hall, the 90 minute-long debate drew cheers and loud noises from the floor.

On Twitter, the chat was fast and furious.

"How come Rafizi does not know much abt his party while KJ seems to know so much abt rafizi's party?" said a comment, referring to the many occasions Khairy had referred to PKR's Buku Jingga.

"Rafizi's point makes sense. pendidikan diperdagangankan (education has been commercialised," said another.

"Sekarang group PKR panas punggung degar hujah KJ (Now the PKR group is feeling the heat)," one said.

"I knew the host is a PKR man," said another.

In the end, Khairy's supporters claimed that he came out the winner.

As for Rafizi's supporters, some said he did better than Khairy.

To sum it up, moderator Dr Mazlee Malik said the debate was not about a winner or loser but to prove that Malaysia "is matured enough to hold a debate."

He received a resounding yes from the floor.
