Labuan oil & gas industry operations must upgrade safety

"Safety is key as it can be the selling point in enhancing oil and gas industry in Malaysia. Corporations involved in this industry and agencies must ensure that safety standards are at international level," he said after launching the 'Bubur Lambuk 1Malaysia Amal Media 2012' programme here Saturday.

Raja Nong Chik was commenting on the fire on board the Bunga Alpinia tanker owned by MISC Berhad in Labuan on Thursday.

He said the ministry would also propose that fire fighting infrastructure be build in nearby areas as a proactive measure to tackle such incidents.

"There is a fire station but it is rather far from the oil and gas industry area in Labuan. I will bring this matter up at the next Cabinet meeting."

At the function, 20 pots of bubur lambuk were distributed to orphans, single mothers, mosques and security forces in Rawang, Shah Alam and Kuala Lumpur.
