Utar main campus to be located in Kampar

By KULDEEP S. JESSY

IPOH: Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman’s (Utar) main campus will be located in Kampar, with construction work expected to start early next year.

Perak MCA chairman Datuk Ong Ka Chuan said Perak had been chosen as the site for the main campus as the state had offered 520ha of land, which was an edge over the Johor Government’s offer of 400ha.

He said many states had offered land but one of the conditions set was that the main campus would be located on the biggest piece of land offered.

“We are very fortunate that the party headquarters has decided to place Utar (main campus) in Perak.

“The state liaison committee hopes to work harder for Utar’s success,” he said after chairing the liaison committee meeting at the Perak MCA headquarters yesterday.

Ong said Utar’s main administrative centre would also be located at the Kampar campus eventually.

Ong, who also announced the 2002-2005 list of state liaison committee members, said there were only slight changes to the old line-up.

Former organising secretary Datuk Tan Chin Meng, who is Bercham state assemblyman, is now Youth chief, taking over from Pokok Assam assemblyman Datuk Ho Cheng Wang, who is now organising secretary.

Ipoh Barat MP Datuk Ho Cheong Sing replaces the late Tiong Ching Hwa as one of the four vice-chairmen, while Kuala Dipang state assemblyman and Kampar division chairman Dr Chong Fah takes over the post of deputy honorary secretary from Datuk Dr Yap Yit Thong.

Ewe Sam Yeun replaces Loh Boon Eng as Tambun division chairman while Chong Tong Meng takes over from Wong Peng Sang as Larut division chairman.
