Welsh singer vows to croon in the nude
SYDNEY: Velvet-voiced Aled Jones, the most famous Welshman alive, pledged yesterday to warble in the nude at the Sydney Opera House next month if Wales recaptures its 1970s form at the Rugby World Cup in Australia.
If Wales are in the final then I'll do my Sydney Opera House concert naked, Jones told Australia's AAP news agency.
Given the fright Wales gave powerhouse New Zealand last weekend a win against England in the quarter-finals this Sunday and an appearance at the Nov 22 final is not an impossible dream.
Jones, who will bring along his usual gaggle of die-hard fans when he tours Australia next month, is a rugby buff.
He sang Bread Of Heaven and the Welsh anthem to 76,000 people at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium before a Wales-New Zealand match at the last World Cup.
We hammered New Zealand at the singing but unfortunately lost the rugby, he said in a telephone interview.
Jones is a musical prodigy. By the age of 16, when his voice broke, he had sold six million albums, sung for the Pope at the Vatican and appeared on British TV's prime-time Top of the Pops.
Now 32, his debut album as a baritone went straight to number one in the Australian classical charts as well as making the top 10 pop albums. dpa
