KUANTAN: A woman died after the motorcycle she was on hit a monkey, which dashed across the road, at the Km19 of Jalan Lipis-Lubuk Kulit, near Lipis, on Monday.
State traffic police chief Supt Baharuddin Saibani identified the woman as Nahina Ismail, 51, of Kampung Lubuk Kulit.
In the 5.30pm incident, the woman was riding pillion on a motorcycle with her son, Tazul Aidi Mat Nor, 17, when a monkey suddenly dashed across the road, Supt Baharuddin said.
The motorcycle hit the monkey, causing both mother and son to fall onto the road.
Nahina, who suffered severe head and shoulder injuries, was rushed to Lipis Hospital but she died at 7.05pm.
Supt Baharuddin said Tazul Aidi suffered only light injuries. However, the monkey died on the spot.
In an unrelated incident, a couple died in a van-lorry crash at Km51 of Jalan Temerloh-Kemasul at Felda Bukit Mendi, near Triang on Monday.
Van driver Abdullah Mat, 59, died on the spot while his wife Salmiah Abdul Malik, 58, died on the way to Bukit Mendi health clinic. Both, who were from Bukit Mendi, suffered head and chest injuries.
Supt Baharuddin said in the 5.15pm accident, the van was heading for Temerloh from Kemasul.
“When it reached the place of the incident, the van went out of control and veered to the opposite lane before colliding head-on with the lorry,” he said.
