Probe into orang utan killings
KOTA KINABALU: Police have set up a special unit to investigate the killings of three orang utan at a nature park adjacent to the Rasa Ria Resort in Tuaran, near here.
Tuaran district police chief Deputy Supt Abdul Karim Abdul Bujang said the team has not established the motives of the killings on Monday, in which two orang utan were also injured.
We are looking at this case from all angles, he told reporters here yesterday.
Sabah Wildlife Department deputy director Laurentius Ambu said that that the injured orang utan had been sent to the Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre at Sepilok in the Sandakan district.
Laurentius said the department was carrying out its own probe into the incident.
The Rasa Ria Resort management said the viewing of orang utan at the nature park had been suspended from Monday.
Its director of sales and marketing Davindaur Kaur said the resort was providing full assistance and co-operation to the police and the Wildlife Department.
