Awards only for ‘squeaky clean’ JPJ staff
BY K. SUTHAKARMARANG: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will only give the excellence awards under the Malaysian Remuneration System (SSM) to staff with a “squeaky clean” record.
Its director-general Datuk Emran Kadir said staff who had complaints against them would not be considered even if the complaints were mere allegations.
“We view allegations as a serious matter as we want all of our personnel to have an unblemished record.
“We have to implement this ruling as the department is dealing with the public and the personnel are constantly exposed to acts of wrongdoing,” he told newsmen yesterday after presenting excellence awards to 61 JPJ personnel from the east coast at the Fire and Rescue Department Academy at Wakaf Tapir.
Emran said 400 personnel or 8% of its total workforce had been awarded the excellence awards this year for the first time under the SSM.
Each recipient gets RM1,000 and a certificate.
He said personnel who had complaints against them submitted either through telephone calls, letters or reports by the Public Complaints Bureau or Anti-Corruption Agency would not be considered for the awards.
“They will be excluded even if there is not enough proof for us to investigate or take disciplinary action against them,” he said.
Emran, who assumed the post in April, said the department received about 50 to 60 complaints per month including against its personnel.
He said an officer was sacked recently for changing the particulars of a vehicle.
Emran said the department was working closely with Pos Malaysia to enable the public to pay the RM2 motor vehicle licence or renewal at post offices.
