Noh warns blog owner over ‘anti-Islam remarks’

BERITA Minggu highlighted on its front page the Internal Security Ministry’s warning to the owner of a blog for allegedly allowing disparaging remarks about Islam to appear on his website.
The daily quoted Deputy Minister Datuk Noh Omar as saying that this was like playing with fire as it could ignite the Muslim community’s anger and pose a threat to the nation’s internal security.
A comment on the blog allegedly belittled Islam Hadhari.
The same article quoted Umno Youth deputy chief Khairy Jamaluddin as saying that the blog owner should take responsibility even though he had not posted the derogatory remarks.
He said Umno Youth felt that the blog owner should apologise over the matter.
The daily also carried the picture and story of an elderly couple who had tied the knot in Dungun, Terengganu.
Widower Omar Mohd Mohd Akil, 68, had proposed six years after making the acquaintance of Zainab Abdul Rahman, 65.
The wedding, organised by the Kampung Sura Jeti Rukun Tetangga, was attended by the all of the couple’s children and grandchildren.
Zainab, who lost her husband 20 years ago, said she accepted Omar’s proposal because he was a kind-hearted man.
In Mingguan Malaysia, Awang Selamat congratulated Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Mohd Isa Samad for securing the highest number of votes in the contest for the vice-president posts in the recent Umno elections.
He said the minister's win had proved that anything could happen in politics.
Awang Selamat went on to say that many had expected Mohd Isa's political career to end when he was named to contest a parliamentary seat after being Negri Sembilan’s mentri besar for 22 years.
However, he noted, Mohd Isa proved them wrong by being appointed a Cabinet minister and his recent election as party vice-president had further strengthened his political career.
Berita Minggu reported that a 25-year-old tour agent in Tumpat, Kelantan, lost cash and valuables totalling RM1,400 when he took a ride from a car rental driver.
The driver threatened the man with a metal steering lock and ordered him to hand over his valuables at the Wakaf Bharu bridge at about 7.30am on Saturday.
