AirAsia pledges funds, seats for relief workers
PETALING JAYA: AirAsia joins the list of donors who have come forward to help the victims and bereaved families affected by Sunday’s tsunami tragedy.
The airline has pledged to give RM50,000 to the The Star Earthquake/Tsunami Relief Fund as well as 150 seats for relief and rescue workers intending to travel to Penang, Langkawi, Alor Star, Medan and Phuket for humanitarian purposes.
AirAsia executive director Kamarudin Meranun said its sister companies in Thailand (through Thai AirAsia) and Indonesia (through AWAir) have come forward to pledge their support to fly relief workers to the affected areas.
In a statement here, he said AirAsia was giving another RM50,000 to a similar relief fund managed by another group of media players.
