Hasmawi to remain with Kedah team
ALOR STAR: Kedah striker Hasmawi Hassan will remain with the state team for the next football season.
Kedah FA vice-president Datuk Chong Itt Chew said the association has accepted the reasons given by Hasmawi over his SMS wedding cancellation to a 23-year-old woman in Johor recently.
“We accepted his reasons and we believe it will not jeopardise his performance with the team,” he said.
Hasmawi cancelled his wedding with Norlida Abdul Rahman, reportedly via SMS, 19 hours before their wedding.
Chong, in his immediate response, had said the association would sack Hasmawi.
The FA were to have met on Tuesday to decide Hasmawi fate but postponed the meeting to Jan 10 as president Datuk Seri Syed Razak Syed Zain, who is also Kedah Mentri Besar, had to tackle the tsunami tragedies in Kuala Muda and Langkawi.
Chong said Hasmawi would also sign a new contract with the state on Jan 10.
