'American Idol' finalist Camille Velasco in Manila for concert
MANILA, Philippines (AP) - "American Idol'' finalist Camille Velasco has returned to her native Philippines as a a guest singer in a Christmas concert, organizers said Tuesday.
Velasco, from Maui, Hawaii, arrived last Friday, a week before the "All You Need is Love'' concert, starring Filipino "concert king'' Martin Nievera at the Philippine International Convention Center. She was to meet Nievera later Tuesday and will rehearse her song numbers on Wednesday and Thursday. The 19-year-old had already appeared on weekend variety shows on ABS-CBN television. She was born in the Philippines, and a year later left with her family for Hawaii. She is living and studying in Los Angeles. Velasco and fellow Hawaiian Jasmine Trias were the two Filipino-Americans who were among the finalists in the third season of "American Idol,'' whose performances Filipinos, like Hawaiians, closely followed and cheered on. Velasco is scheduled to return for another concert with a Filipino band, "Southborder,'' in February.-AP
