Kournikova, Serena model swimwear in Sports llustrated
WASHINGTON: Russia's Anna Kournikova and American star Serena Williams might be absent from the WTA Tour, but they make a splash as swimwear models in the annual Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue which made its debut yesterday.
The American sports magazine's 40th edition of the swimsuit issue showcases top models in exotic locations as well as sporting some celebrities from the sports world, with model Veronica Varekova on the cover.
Kournikova has never won a WTA event but her beauty has made her a top attraction whenever she plays.
Serena Williams has not played since winning last July at Wimbledon, having risen to the top of the tennis world alongside sister Venus only to vanish after an injury that was treated by surgery nearly six months ago.
American football player Eddie George of the Tennessee Titans, Major League Baseball's Alex Rodriguez of the Texas Rangers and Petr Nedved of the National Hockey League's New York Rangers are featured in photographs with their spouses or models. – AFP
