Brunei’s Sufri Bolkiah divorces former singer Mazuin Hamzah

AFTER 17 years of marriage, the Sultan of Brunei’s brother Pengiran Muda Sufri Bolkiah has divorced his Malaysian wife Pengiran Bini Mazuin Hamzah, a former popular singer and drummer of local group Quinnary M, Utusan Malaysia reported.

It said that the divorce, which took place at the end of last year, was confirmed in a statement to the paper by a spokesman for the Brunei High Commission.

“The news about the divorce is true and they are both going their separate ways.

“It is a personal matter and does not mean that the Brunei government must announce the divorce to fans or journalists,” the paper quoted the spokesman as saying.

It said the statement came in response to a news report about the divorce in the paper’s entertainment column on Sunday.

The paper also said Mazuin would now be known as Hajjah Mazuin Hamzah.

According to a source, she is still residing in Brunei.

The paper added that the couple have a daughter, Pengiran Anak Ajeerah Firdausul Bolkiah, who was born on Sept 7, 1988.

Berita Harian reported that the sale of the bee-pollen-based product under the brand name Propolis Gold has been discontinued by its distributor Leading Profile Sdn Bhd following a raid by the pharmaceutical division of the Selangor Health Department at its premises last week.

The daily quoted Leading Profile chairman Datuk Pahamin A. Rejab as saying that the company had filed an application to obtain a licence from the Health Ministry’s Drug Control Authority.

“We receive our supply of Propolis Gold from Bee Health Ltd which is based in the United Kingdom and Leading Profile repackages the products to fulfil the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry’s requirement.

“We have 180,000 agents nationwide and hopefully the licence can be processed soon so that they can continue their business. I want to stress that Propolis is a food supplement and not a drug that can cure diseases,” said Pahamin.
