Lizarazu at real pains to face friend Zidane
|
Zidane and Lizarazu, 34, played together at Bordeaux in their early years and were then part of France's 1998 World Cup winning team, but now pit their wits against each other in the last sixteen of Europe's premier competition.
“When I phone him up I will plead with him not to come down my left side,” Lizarazu told German magazine Stern. “It is difficult for me to play against him.
“I cannot attack him like (David) Beckham or (Luis) Figo.”
“Zizou does not make me aggressive and I do not want to hurt him as he is one of my best friends.”
Under-pressure Bayern Munich manager Ottmar Hitzfeld will hope Lizarazu can forget his personal feelings come Tuesday and turn in a professional display as Bayern face the biggest game of their season at the Olympic Stadium. – AFP
